El Castillo/Indio Maíz Biological Reserve
Indio Maíz Biological Reserve is considered the best preserved reserve in Nicaragua. Long closed to the public and reserved for biologists, it is now accessible to all.
With an area of 3,180 square kilometers, it is home to countless species of animals from the rainforest (jungle) such as sloths, cougars, jaguars, crocodiles and manatees, in addition to 3 species of monkey (howler, Capuchin and the spider monkey).
Not to mention hundreds of species of tropical birds such as toucans, parrots, hummingbirds and macaws.
This reserve houses more species of trees and birds than all of Europe.
